LD PATRICK HAYES: FROM HOG FACTOR TO THE DECEMBERISTS’ TOUR
August 7, 2018
"Since 2015, many contestants in the first Hog Factor Collegiate Lighting Programming Competition have gone on to pursue careers in the entertainment lighting industry. High End Systems checked in with some of those finalists on the winning teams to find out where they have gone and what they are doing. This is the first in the series.
Designer/programmer Patrick Hayes is on the road this year as the LD for The Decemberists’ “Your Girl, Your Ghost World Tour.” With his Full Boar 4 console, DP8000 processor and two playback wings controlling the show, he reflects on where he was just a few years ago – unfamiliar with the Hog platform, but intrigued into entering High End Systems’ Hog Factor competition.
In 2015, Hayes was a student at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, when High End Systems launched its collegiate lighting programming contest. Those making it to the three finalist teams would then compete using the lights and Hog 4 console in High End Systems’ booth at the annual LDI trade show in Las Vegas. Practicing his programming skills, Hayes made it on the winning team that first year, placing second the next.
Since graduating with a Master of Fine Arts in 2016, Hayes has designed and programmed a variety of projects in New York. One LD he’s been working with is a previous Hog Factor judge Marc Janowitz of E26 Design – and those TV projects include the HBO comedy series “2 Dope Queens” and Jerrod Charmichael’s “8”, and Netflix’s “W. Kamau Bell: Private School Negro.” Click on the link below to read the full article."
